When it comes to the music industry, you should know that DJ's (disc jockeys) are the key to most artists in any genre to get radio play. Some may view them as a "ticket" into the nightclubs around the world, the key to the music industry and even the element of building your brand.

Over the years I have supported the celebration of DJ's all over the world and their talent , per say love of music. All of you know one of my favorite DJ's that resides in Miami, Fl is DJ Griot from WEDR 99Jamz. He has a great work ethic, respected by celebrities, such as Missy Elliot , he's dedicated to professonalism, a philanthropist, rips on the airways effortlessly, keeps Twitter overflowing with tweets from his fans around the world, keeps it fresh in Adidas gear, educates others on the history of hip hop and always delivers at any event presented to him...this is the very essence of the WMC to recognize the greatest DJ's.

One of the moguls in the industry that I respect is Tony Neal, CEO of the Core DJ Network, who is a man of great caliber, positive outlook on everything and has an amazing work ethic. He has one of the world's greatest network of international DJ's, has recently acquired his OWN commercial radio station back in his hometown of Milwaukee and started his own national aired Top 40 syndicated mixshows.   He continues to build his brand internationally with his network of DJ's making major moves.

Making your mark in the music industry as a DJ can be a trying task.. trying to book clubs, major events, parties and any event that will get your brand noticed. It is also a brotherhood to those who respect each other and salute others success. Unfortunately , a lot of DJ's don't have work ethic, professionalism, morals or a since of what a REAL DJ represents. A DJ that knows the industry, embraces all genres of music, makes major moves, has landed a spot on a major radio station, has a fan base of more than 100 people and when they make an appearance, the whole city comes out.
You are not a household name because you do weddings, bar mitzvahs, block parties, house parties and strip clubs...That's how you begin, not how you stay..

You have DJ's that rival with other DJ's for respect, for validation, for endorsements, for popularity and even for fans. DJ's need to know that they are men not ladies trying to see who's wearing the most expensive clothes and shoes. You have to stand for something and give back to a great cause. Perform at charity events, politician events, world changing events, like the  Olympics as DJ Brooklyn Earick has done. Be selective when you choose your "industry" name, you are building a brand not a MySpace page. Even if you don't have a slot in the Winter Music Conference , you still need to brand your name.

The DJ...he is the life of the party, the one who makes you dance, the one who keeps the crowd rockin, the one who is using his hands to speak...in the words of Missy Elliott when she replied to one of my tweets on Twitter - #RESPECTTHEDJs .

Stay tuned for the success of DJ Griot and Tony Neal...you won't be disappointed!
